Dear friends of Stratleade,
We are pleased to commence this year's annual fundraising campaign!! Please see the message below from past grant recipient Samuel Brizuela (MSLS '11). Stratleade will provide at least one grant for a deserving student studying sustainability at BTH next year in memory of Michael Henson (read more here) -- and hopefully support additional grants and activities as well. -- Hello from beautiful Guatemala to all the MSLS / MSPI Alumni across the globe! As some of you know, three years ago I had the privilege to receive the StratLeade Scholarship which gave me the opportunity to be part of MSLS, opportunity which I wouldn't have been able to take if it had not been for the support of many of you. Because of your support I am now able to hold a degree from BTH and I am able to serve better my community here in Guatemala as wonderful opportunities have opened and I know more will. Now, it is this time of the year when we are kicking off our fundraiser campaign to be able to provide more grants for the next generation of MSLSers and MSPIers. Our goal this year is to raise $10,000 by September 30th. This is our stretching goal and we are aiming to pass it if possible. Take a moment to remember all those great moments you lived while studying your master's course and I am sure you would like more people to be able to have this opportunity. Giving is easy, just go follow this link www.stratleade.org and share a life changing experience with someone else. I leave you with some inspiring quotes on giving: “The value of a man resides in what he gives and not in what he is capable of receiving.” -Albert Einstein "It is more blessed to give than to receive." -Jesus “Real generosity toward the future lies in giving all to the present.” -Albert Camus “They who give have all things; they who withhold have nothing” -Hindu Proverb Samuel Brizuela CORPORATE AND ENTREPRENEURIAL SUSTAINABILITY CONSULTANT MSc Strategic Leadership towards Sustainability

Religion & sustainability: Final report from stratleade grant recipient: Olivier mazimpaka10/18/2012 by Olivier Mazimpaka, MSLS '12 This past year was an incredible experience studying at the MSLS programme at BTH. My two colleagues and I focused our thesis on “The Contribution of Religious belief in Moving Society Towards Sustainability”, because we believe that “Religious communities have achieved remarkable behaviour change in situations where non-faith-based communication failed” (Palmer and Finlay 2003). We ended up finding that religious concepts such as stewardship and the Golden Rule are key motivations, which can give guidance on sustainability. However, these concepts are not consciously exploited. Furthermore, our research found that both religious leaders and people lack a full understanding of sustainability and are not strategic about moving towards sustainability, and that religious communities could greatly benefit from adopting a strategic sustainable development (SSD) approach. It was a very good experience since it was the first time in our university to link religion to sustainability. We found that connecting religion and sustainability was powerful in engaging people and our colleagues. Our most interesting findings came when we started interviewing church leaders and religious experts. Now I am back in my home country, and at my university, the National University of Rwanda. I have already talked to my rector and he encouraged me to continue on with my work in the sustainability field, and suggest a proper plan on e-waste management, and recycling. I am working on this already. I am also trying my best to get the university working with the MSLS program of BTH, in order to share knowledge and learn from their sustainability experience. I believe our students and researchers could benefit from MSLS experience and improve the sustainability program in Rwanda on the academic side as well, especially by training many institutions and universities to use FSSD. I would also like to pursue my sustainability studies to PhD level so that I can better provide my contribution to the National University of Rwanda and to my country and region in general. We are nearing the end of the 2012 Annual Campaign -- just two more days until Sept. 30th. And while we are getting closer, we need one big final push to get to our goal of $12,500.
As of today, we've raised $8,271 ... that leaves $4,229 to go. Please donate today to help close the gap! The MSLS alumni have stepped up with 15% of the aluni network participating -- a very strong show of support, especially when you consider that this is a young program with only volunteers to support fundraising efforts. We're encouraging everyone to reach out to friends and family, encouraging them to chip in whatever they can to bring us closer to our goal over this final weekend. Please help by sharing the following messages on facebook and twitter: Facebook post: Please join me in supporting the education of dynamic sustainability leaders -- a small donation can lead to a lifetime of effective, strategic sustainability leadership, dedicated to addressing some of world's most pressing challenges. www.stratleade.org Tweet: Join me in donating to @Stratleade and support strategic #sustainability #leadership - http://ow.ly/e4Whs cc @sustainBTH THANK YOU! to everyone who has donated so far to this year's Annual Campaign -- we're up to $5,134 ... that's more than 40% of the way to our goal of $12,500 -- which is about what it costs for a deserving student from a developing country to attending the Master's in Strategic Leadership towards Sustainability programme.
These extraordinary leaders will come away from this programme well-equipped to tackle some of our world's greatest challenges -- and inspire hundreds and thousands of others to tackle these issues as well. It's a great investment, so please help us in reaching our goal -- click the "donate" button to the left and give what you can today! Thanks so much, StratLeade We recently launched our 2012 Annual Campaign with a goal of raising $12,500 before the end of our fiscal year on Sept. 30th.
Please click the "donate" button to the left to help us get there. To date this year we've raised $3,279 ... that leaves $9,221 -- please chip in today! Looking upstream to support education for sustainability -- creating more and more sustainability champions who will effectively lead efforts to address climate change, poverty, toxics, deforestation, injustice, and all of the complex and interrelated social and ecological challenges -- is among the most strategic ways to allocate your charitable donations. Please take a moment to donate now. Thank you for your support! Here's our challenge: raise $12,500 before Sept. 30.
That's approximately what it costs an international student to attend the groundbreaking Master's in Strategic Leadership towards Sustainability programme at the Blekinge Institute of Technology (BTH) in Karlskrona, Sweden. Please donate today by clicking the "Donate" button on the left side of the screen and giving what you can. In years past, donors to the StratLeade Annual Campaign have given generously -- enabling students like Samuel Brizuela from Guatemala and Olivier Mazimpaka from Rwanda to attend the programme, and bring their sustainability leadership skills back home to make significant contributions to our world's greatest problems. The founders of the MSLS programme, Dr. Karl-Henrik Robèrt & Dr Göran Broman, have said: "The question of reaching sustainability is not about if we will have the money or the technology to do it - those we have. The question is, will there be enough leaders in time?" Supporting the development of such leaders from all over the world is critical if we are to be successful in creating a sustainable society by tackling the many big, systemic challenges we face -- from poverty to climate change, from oppression to toxics, from income inequality to biodiviersity loss. Please give whatever you can to help us meet our goal by Sept. 30th. Thank you!! |
